Albuquerque, New Mexico, March 27, 2009 – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) mobile health van will be at the Healthy Living Expo from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009, providing blood pressure testing and glucose screenings. The Barbara Richardson "Para Tu Salud" Care Van will be working with the BCBSNM Sales, Medicare, and BlueSaludSM Medicaid teams to provide general health information and information on these programs. BCBSNM is the presenting sponsor for the Expo.
"The BCBSNM Medicare team is looking forward to participating the Healthy Living Expo again this year," said Jane Thompson, Manager of Medicare Sales. "The Expo gives our department the opportunity to reach current members as well as prospective clients in the Las Cruces area. BCBSNM is proud to sponsor this worthwhile event because it reaches people who are interested in their own health and wellness."
The BlueSalud outreach team will also be available to provide information on the BCBSNM Medicaid program. BCBSNM recently became a Managed Care Organization for the state's Medicaid SALUD!
The Care Van, operating since January 2006, travels the state with a mission of helping to improve health outcomes for all New Mexicans. BCBSNM collaborates with community and state organizations to provide basic health services such as immunizations, flu shots, diabetes outreach, obesity information, and basic dental screenings at schools, health fairs, community events, and festivals. In 2008, the Care Van program provided services to over 2,000 children and administered over 5,200 immunizations throughout the state.
