Albuquerque, New Mexico, April 23, 2008 – Matthew C. Fontana, MD, has been named Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico. Dr. Fontana is responsible for the development and oversight of clinically related programs, including medical management, utilization management, case management, disease management, quality improvement, appeals, medical policy, pharmacy, and network relations. In addition, Dr. Fontana will maintain and enhance effective relationships with physicians, hospitals, and medical service companies.
Dr. Fontana received a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in biology from Harvard College. He received his medical degree from The Medical College of Pennsylvania, and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Fontana is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association.
