About Us

Who We Are

For over 60 years, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) has been committed to the health needs of our state, adapting to changes in the health care environment and developing new and innovative products to administer a variety of private business and government benefit programs.

BCBSNM and HMO New Mexico (HMONM) offer a complete continuum of health plans, including Point-of-Service, HMO, PPO, indemnity, and individual health plans. We serve nearly 220,000 individuals, employees, and family members, with the most comprehensive provider networks in the state.

Stability and Experience

In addition to offering a wide range of commercial products, BCBSNM serves as the fiscal intermediary for Contract Health Services (CHS), provided through Indian Health Service (IHS); administers the State of New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool (NMMIP) for uninsured individuals; and provides utilization review for the New Mexico Medicaid Program.

Corporate Overview

In July 2001, BCBSNM was acquired by Health Care Service Corporation, a Mutual Legal Reserve Company and Independent Licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. HCSC also operates the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans of Illinois and Texas. This acquisition provides BCBSNM with access to new technologies and capabilities.

HCSC operates through its Blue Cross and Blue Shield divisions in New Mexico, Texas, and Illinois, and several subsidiaries to offer a variety of health and life insurance products and related services to employers and individuals. HCSC currently provides Blue Cross and Blue Shield coverage to more than 9 million members.
