Employees at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Earn Donation for American Cancer Society
Albuquerque, NM — In an effort to help improve the health and wellness of New Mexicans, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is making a charitable contribution of $2,000 to the American Cancer Society (ACS). The donation matches 100 hours of volunteer service from BCBSNM employees.
"We strive to support organizations that share our mission to create healthier communities," said Tamra Peña, Community Relations Coordinator for BCBSNM. "As a community partner, the American Cancer Society is helping us make a positive difference in the lives around us. Our employees participate annually in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk with ACS."
Organizations must meet certain criteria to become community partners. BCBSNM employees then can log their volunteer hours for the organization through the company’s Blue Corps program. BCBSNM donates $20 for each hour of service its employees contribute, with a maximum of $2,000 per organization.
BCBSNM was founded nearly 70 years ago and is the only statewide member-owned health insurer. In 2008, BCBSNM employees volunteered 309 hours, earning $4,400 for 11 community partners.
