Eugene Sun Named Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico announces Eugene F. Sun, MD, M.B.A., has been hired as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, effective March 26, 2012. Dr. Sun is responsible for the development and clinical oversight of our health care managed programs. In addition, Dr. Sun will maintain and enhance effective relationships with physicians, hospitals, and medical service companies.
Dr. Sun is board certified in internal medicine and is a native New Mexican, born and raised in Albuquerque. After completing medical school at the University of New Mexico, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He has broad experience in health care administration, pharmaceuticals, and managed care, including the New Mexico Medicaid program. He has worked with Kaiser Permanente, Regence Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Pacificare, and Merck. Most recently, Dr. Sun was CMO for Molina Healthcare of New Mexico.
