Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico’s David Rodriguez Makes a Difference in Albuquerque
Albuquerque, NM — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) employee, David Rodriguez, has been selected as Volunteer of the Year for 2012. As part of its ongoing focus on giving back to the community, BCBSNM recognizes an employee each year who captures the spirit of “giving back.” Rodriguez especially exemplifies this spirit through his tireless commitment to the community, logging almost 500 personal volunteer hours during 2012.
Rodriguez is a seven-year employee of BCBSNM, currently working as a Claims Examiner. Rodriguez is active both in corporate volunteer activities and in community activities.
"We are proud to recognize David as Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico’s 2012 Volunteer of the Year,” said BCBSNM president Kurt Shipley. “People like David are the heart of our company and he exemplifies our corporate philosophy of giving back to the communities we serve. His eagerness to help others is a perfect example of corporate citizenship."
BCBSNM employees provide nominations for the Volunteer of the Year. For four years, Rodriguez has volunteered at Atrisco Heritage High School, serving as part of the coaching staff for Cross Country Track and Girls Softball. David serves as a mentor and tutor for students in need as well. David has also supported BCBSNM’s community outreach by volunteering with our Operation Back to School program and the holiday Adopt-a-Family event. David is an active member of the Blue Bear Club, performing mascot duties at many sporting events throughout the year.
In honor of the award, BCSBNM donated $1,000 to New Mexico Special Olympics in David’s name.
