Note Regarding Coverage for Mammogram and Cervical Cancer Screenings
Although new mammogram and cervical cancer screening guidelines have recently been proposed, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) will continue to provide medical coverage for routine mammograms and cervical cancer screenings for women as ordered by their physicians and outlined in the member's certificate.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) employees worked with the Youth Development, Inc. (YDI), Headstart program to provide holiday presents for families in need. For the fifth year, BCBSNM donated to the Adopt-a-Family program during the holidays. BCBSNM teams provided holiday presents for 28 YDI families, including families from the Albuquerque, Espanola, and Taos Headstart programs.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) has promoted Margaret (Margie) McNett to the position of Vice President and General Counsel New Mexico. She will be responsible for the operation of the New Mexico legal department, providing and coordinating the legal support for the New Mexico Division. She also serves as the lead of the Human Resources Legal Practice group for Health Care Service Corporation. She has been with the BCBSNM legal team since 2003.

August is recognized as National Immunization Awareness Month. It is a perfect time to bring children's and adult's shot records up-to-date and catch up on needed vaccinations prior to returning to school. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is partnering with nurses from the Department of Health (DOH) and the ENMU-Roswell Division of Health to help make this easier for New Mexico families.

A new health partnership will provide monthly immunization clinics to children in the Roswell area. The ENMU-Roswell Division of Health is partnering with the New Mexico Department of Health, Chaves County Health office, McDonald's, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) to offer this preventive service. The free children's immunization clinics will be held at the McDonald's UFO restaurant in Roswell, 720 N. Main Street, from 8 a.m. to noon, on the third Wednesday of each month. The first clinic will be Wednesday, June 17. Parents are encouraged to bring their children's immunization records.

The Barbara Richardson "Para Tu Salud" Care Van will be working with the BCBSNM Sales, Medicare, and BlueSaludSM Medicaid teams to provide general health information and information on these programs. BCBSNM is the presenting sponsor for the Expo.

Peggy Tras was recently named Case Manager of the Year by the Rio Grande Chapter of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA). This is the first Case Manager award presented by the New Mexico chapter. Tras was honored at the CMSA chapter meeting on January 15, 2009. She has been with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) for 20 years, serving as a Case Manager since 1993.

Duane L. Ross, MD, has been appointed to the Medical Directorship of BlueSaludSM, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) Medicaid Program. In addition to his current responsibilities, Dr. Ross will be responsible for the development, implementation and administration of corporate medical policies as related to the Medicaid program. Dr. Ross will also maintain and enhance effective relationships with physicians, hospitals, and other health providers working with the BlueSaludSM program. He will also serve as a liaison with the other Managed Care Organizations to ensure cooperation with quality and utilization initiatives for Medicaid.
