Two Decades of Providing School Supplies to New Mexico Students
Albuquerque, NM — For two decades employees of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) have generously donated time and money to provide school supplies for students in need as part of their Operation Back to School (OBTS) campaign. Over 35 school districts and an additional 28 individual schools have benefitted from OBTS throughout the years. BCBSNM employees will deliver this year’s donations to ten schools and districts around New Mexico. For some deliveries, Blue Bear, the BCBSNM mascot, will join the caravan to deliver school supplies.
OBTS began on a small scale in 1990 as a project to support the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority. District-wide beneficiaries this year include Taos Municipal Schools, Mora Independent Schools, and Reserve Independent Schools; individual schools include Lowell, La Mesa, and Armijo Elementary schools in Albuquerque, and Salazar, Ramirez Thomas, Agua Fria, and R.M. Sweeney Elementary schools in Santa Fe.
