We enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS). Regrettably, PHS notified BCBSNM that it would not renew its contract and terminated its relationship with BCBSNM effective December 31, 2003, for PHS facilities in Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties, which includes Presbyterian Medical Group's physicians in these four counties.
Please note that this termination does NOT include PHS facilities and associated physicians outside Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia counties. If you are a BCBSNM member living outside these four counties, when directed by a contracted physician in these regional areas, you will continue to have access to PHS facilities and associated Presbyterian Medical Group physicians in the Albuquerque area at your current benefit levels.
In relation to PHS's termination, we want to share the following additional information with you:
- BCBSNM continues to offer a comprehensive network of over 8,700 providers statewide. We provide a comprehensive health care network for our members in the Albuquerque area that includes over 3000 physicians and other medical professionals, including many independent practices, plus Lovelace hospitals, UNM Hospital, and the Heart Hospital.
- As of January 1, 2004, members living in the four-county area who have PPO, Point-of-Service, and indemnity plans may continue to see PHS providers at a reduced benefit level for most benefits (some benefits are available only from a contracted provider). Check your summary of benefits or benefit booklet for information on noncontracted or out-of-network providers, or call Customer Service at the number on the back of your ID card, or email Customer Service (select the email form for your plan/group). (Reminder that Blue PPO and BlueChoice members need to see a contracted PCP to receive the office visit copayment benefit.)
- Point-of-Service members may see any contracted (in-network) PCP to receive PCP-coordinated benefits, although we always recommend establishing a relationship with one PCP.
