The new health care law is changing the way some Americans get health insurance. The changes include new options that can make it easier to shop for coverage, especially for individuals and families who could not afford or get coverage before.
If you don't have access to health coverage through your employer or you are not eligible for coverage under a government program such as Medicaid, CHIP or Medicare, you may have new ways to get health insurance.
Below are the options available to you for getting coverage.
You can enroll in a plan directly with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) through our online shopping cart, or by calling us at 888-809-1135. You'll be able to view all BCBSNM health plans available to you, including the plans that will be offered through the Health Insurance Exchange.
The Exchange is run by the government, but it offers health plans from private companies. You can start enrolling for 2015 coverage on October 1, 2014. If you qualify for a credit or other help paying for your coverage, you can use that credit on the Exchange.
You can also choose to work with an insurance agent if you'd like. They can help you find the plan that's best for you.
