To receive the highest level of benefits with little or no out-of-pocket expense, you must see a provider that accepts Medicare assignment. Please ask if your provider accepts Medicare assignment before scheduling an appointment.
You may also seek services from Medicare providers that do not accept Medicare assignment, but your out-of-pocket expenses will be higher. If you need services covered under the Carveout Plan that are not covered by Medicare (for example, acupuncture), you may reduce your out-of-pocket expenses by selecting a provider that belongs to the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) participating provider network. BCBS-participating providers will write off the difference between the provider's billed charge and the covered charge; nonparticipating providers will bill you the difference, in addition to your Carveout Plan deductible and coinsurance.

To find BCBS-participating providers outside New Mexico or to find a BCBS-participating provider for services not covered by Medicare, search the BlueCard Doctor and Hospital Finder on the the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association Web site.
