Spending Account
With the BlueEdge HCA plan, your employer sets aside a specific amount of money for you each benefit year in a Health Care Account (HCA). An HCA spending account can help you and covered family members pay for qualified health care expenses.
Here's how the Health Care Account works:
-
When you need any covered medical care, the first dollars spent are automatically deducted from this account — you don't even need to file a claim.
-
The money paid from your account is applied toward meeting your annual plan deductible.
-
You can keep track of your HCA balance on your Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and online.
-
If you use all of your employer's HCA contribution, you are responsible for any remaining balance of your deductible before your PPO coverage begins. The amount in your HCA is applied toward meeting your deductible. Once the deductible is met, your BlueEdge HCA benefits begin.
-
Any remaining balance in your account at the end of the benefit year automatically rolls over to the next year and is added to the annual contribution made by your employer. The greater the balance, the less you have to pay out of pocket.
-
If you have coverage for your dependents, the family HCA can be used to pay for any covered services received by any family member covered under the plan.
-
If you choose another plan or leave the company without continuing your coverage (e.g., under COBRA), the balance in the HCA returns to your employer.
Deductible
BlueEdge has an annual deductible that you must satisfy before PPO benefits begin.
Here's how it works:
-
The deductible amount, which is based on your employer's particular benefit plan, is shared between the Spending Account contribution and you.
-
The money you use from your Spending Account is applied toward the deductible.
-
Once you use all the money in your Spending Account, you need to satisfy any remaining balance of your deductible before your PPO benefits begin.
-
If your dependents are covered under the plan, the deductible works like most other Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico PPO programs. No family member has to satisfy more than the individual deductible before receiving PPO benefits, and the PPO benefits will be paid for the whole family once the family deductible is met. The deductible is not part of the out-of-pocket maximum.
