COVID-19 Coverage for BCBSNM Members
We are closely monitoring activity around the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are committed to helping our members, employer customers and our own employees stay informed about COVID-19 and assisting those who might be affected.
Effective immediately, we won’t require prior authorization and won’t apply member co-pays or deductibles for testing to diagnose COVID-19 when medically necessary and consistent with Centers for Disease Control guidance. This applies to all members we insure.
Many of our members are covered under a health plan that is self-insured by their employer. We are helping employers in making decisions about their health plans.

With regard to treatment for COVID-19, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico plans cover medically necessary health benefits, including physician services, hospitalization and emergency services consistent with the terms of your benefits.
The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is advising that if you have reason to believe you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms of the virus please call your primary care provider or the NMDOH hotline at 1-505-827-0006. The state is doing their best to keep people who may be infected out of primary care clinics and emergency rooms. DOH is prepared to offer direction to providers and individuals as to next steps in those situations.
