Making an Impact 2018 Highlights

Investing in Community Partners to Improve Health

We invested more than $720,000 in our nonprofit partners in 2018 to improve access to preventive health services and other resources for healthier lives and communities. This includes $44,000 to support food assistance through Feeding America, helping our partners distribute more than 160,000 pounds of food across New Mexico. One of our partners, The Food Depot, delivers food to 9,100 people in rural communities each month through its Mobile Food Pantry program.

Bridging Gaps in Preventive Care

Having to travel long distances to see doctors, in addition to other barriers to care, affect our health and well-being. Our Care Van® mobile health program brings preventive care directly to people who need it. In 2018, the program helped deliver vaccinations, health screenings or education to more than 17,000 people. In April 2018, we unveiled a second Care Van to expand access to these vital services.

Whole-Person Approach to Health

Our ability to achieve our best health often relies on simple things like knowing how to choose healthy food – not just doctors and medications. That’s why we’re working with health care providers and community partners to empower whole-person health. For example, we’re working with dietitians and pharmacists to have classes in grocery stores that help members with diabetes navigate the aisles.

Making Connections in Our Communities

In 2018, our employees recorded more than 10,000 hours of service with 139 organizations across New Mexico. They collected and delivered school supplies to kids, organized a holiday gift drive for veterans and military families, and dedicated the time and effort in many other ways to help their fellow New Mexicans.
