Community Paramedicine Program Reduces ER Visits for BCBSNM Medicaid Members

The Community Paramedicine Program at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) has helped more than 1,100 Medicaid members reduce emergency room visits and ambulance use. Since the program launch in January 2016, BCBSNM has seen almost a 62 percent reduction in emergency room use and a 63 percent reduction in ambulance use by members in the program. BCBSNM estimates the program has avoided $1.7 million in medical costs for the state’s Medicaid program.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Provided More Than $1.2 Million in Funding and Sponsorships to 86 Organizations in 2016

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) donated more than $1.2 million dollars in community grants and sponsorships in 2016. BCBSNM collaborated with 86 community partners across the state to improve the health and wellness of New Mexicans, including such agencies as the American Lung Association, St. Martin's Hospitality Center, the Food Depot of Santa Fe, Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless and Southern New Mexico Diabetes Outreach. In addition, 312 BCBSNM employees donated more than 11,000 volunteer hours to a wide variety of organizations in the community.

New Health of America Report Shows Retail Clinic Visits are Up Despite a Lag Among Individually Insured
