Fraction Farms Receives Funding to Support the Harvest of Fresh Produce That Helps Combat Food Insecurity in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE — Fraction Farms, located in Corrales, has received a $14,250 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico’s (BCBSNM) Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® initiative. The grant will support Fraction Farm’s 2023 growing season and harvest, which is projected to produce over 9,000 pounds of healthy produce for organizations serving people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness statewide.

“We’re so lucky to have the support of BCBSNM as we work to grow and donate healthy food to the food insecure of New Mexico,” said Amanda Zich, Fraction Farms volunteer vice president. “This amazing grant will help us afford irrigation supplies, seeds, fertilizer and soil amendments to grow great food for those in need.”

“Supporting our community members experiencing food insecurity is a key priority of BCBSNM,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. “By growing and donating food, Fraction Farms provides direct support to people in need and helps minimize the impact of hunger.”

BCBSNM’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Families grant initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to invest in and partner with nonprofit organizations that offer sustainable, measurable programs in nutrition, physical activity, disease prevention and management, and supporting safe environments. Fraction Farm’s commitment to growing and donating thousands of pounds of fresh produce to nonprofits serving vulnerable New Mexicans aligns with the vision of Healthy Kids, Healthy Families to improve the health of children and their families across New Mexico.
