Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Names 2020 Volunteer of the Year

Mary Charley has been named the 2020 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) Volunteer of the Year. Charley, a community health coordinator at BCBSNM, is an active member of the New Mexico community and supports many causes and organizations including Girl Scouts, Roadrunner Food Bank, Mitchell Elementary School and the Eldorado Eagles Football Booster Club. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Charley distributed homemade masks and food boxes to the Navajo Nation.

“Being named Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico’s Volunteer of the Year is truly a great honor and such a great, exciting feeling,” said Charley.

“This just shows that nothing you do ever goes unnoticed. You can make a difference in so many ways. I may not always have the time, but I do have the heart to lend a helping hand. I always believe that what you do and how you help will come back to you in a different way.”

The annual Volunteer of the Year award celebrates a BCBSNM employee who makes a difference in their community. The award also provides employees the opportunity to nominate outstanding coworkers for their volunteerism.

In honor of the award, BCBSNM will donate $1,000 to Charley’s charity of choice, Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails, Inc., Troop 10029.
