Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Announces the Addition of Second Care Van®

The additional Care Van will help bring mobile health care to more New Mexicans

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) is proud to announce the addition of a second Care Van to its mobile health program. The Care Van program provides mobile health clinics to help improve health care access across the state.

Since 2006, the Care Van has travelled the state, working with health care providers to offer health screenings and immunizations to children and adults who might not get medical care. The addition of this new Care Van will double BCBSNM’s efforts to bring services to New Mexicans. In 2017, the Care Van served more than 10,000 clients and provided more than 4,000 medical screenings. There is no cost to access services in the Care Van.

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico upholds a long-standing commitment to help New Mexicans lead healthier lives,” said Kurt Shipley, president of BCBSNM. “Our Care Van program is one way we put this commitment into action. By growing the program, we are helping to make a positive impact on the health of people in our communities, especially in rural New Mexico.”

BCBSNM has invested more than $175,000 in the new Care Van and will spend an average of $6,000 per year in medical supplies and equipment to stock the mobile clinic. BCBSNM provides the program at no cost to support the outreach efforts of nonprofit organizations and staffs the program with coordinators who oversee the schedule, drive the van to service sites and provide basic logistical support.

Nonprofit organizations may request a Care Van for community health education and outreach services by calling 505-816-4105.
