Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Executive Named to beWellnm Board of Directors

BeWellnm, the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, welcomed Janice Torrez as the newest member of its 13-member Board of Directors today. Torrez is succeeding Dr. Martin Hickey and was appointed to the board by Speaker of the New Mexico House of Representatives Brian Egolf.

Torrez brings more than 27 years of experience as a senior executive within New Mexico health care organizations. She is the Associate Vice President of External Affairs and Chief of Staff for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico. Previously, she served as the President of The Resultz Group, a health care consulting firm. She has also served as the President of The St. Joseph Healthcare Provider-Sponsored Organization and the vice president of business development for the St. Joseph Healthcare System.

“It’s an honor to be appointed to the beWellnm Board of Directors. I can’t wait to get to work serving New Mexicans in this manner,” said Torrez. “I’m passionate about the health and well-being of our state’s communities and I’m happy to do my part to ensure that all New Mexicans have access to the health insurance they need.”

She is an active member of the community as the chair of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation’s Board of Trustees. In the past, Torrez has also served as the chair of the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry’s Board of Directors and as chairman of the board of InnovAge. She was recognized as a 2016 Women of Influence Honoree.

“I’m pleased to welcome Ms. Torrez to the board. She will be a wonderful addition and brings with her a great deal of valuable experience in the healthcare industry,” said Jeffery Bustamante, beWellnm CEO. “I have no doubt she’ll be an asset as we work together to enroll more New Mexicans in qualified health plans.”

Torrez fills the seat previously occupied by Hickey, the former CEO of True Health New Mexico. Hickey also served as the chairman of the Exchange Board’s Outreach and Education Committee.
