St. Felix Pantry received a $15,000 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) through its Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® initiative. St. Felix Pantry’s commitment to feed the hungry aligns with the vision of BCBSNM’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Families grant program to help improve the health of children and their families in local communities.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, St. Felix Pantry remains committed to providing food to families through food box deliveries, drive-up food pantries and mobile food pantries. St. Felix Pantry is facing an increase in demand for food amidst the pandemic and is working hard to meet those needs through their Good Eats Program. This program supports students by providing healthy weekend food boxes and literature on good nutrition when school during the school year.
“St. Felix Pantry is honored to receive this grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico,” said Rachael Miletkov, director of development at St. Felix Pantry. “Imagine learning to read, grasping a new mathematical concept, or memorizing a scientific process while your stomach is empty. Hunger is a massive roadblock to success, and our partnership wants to alleviate the obstacle of lack of food so children in our community can fill their appetite with good nutrition and success in the classroom.”
“We are proud to support St. Felix Pantry, which makes a positive impact on children’s health and wellness,” said Janice Torrez, vice president of external affairs, BCBSNM. “Hunger and food insecurity negatively impact children’s development. St. Felix Pantry helps address this by providing children with nutritious foods when they would not otherwise be able to access healthy meals, enabling them to live healthier and happier lives.”
Healthy Kids, Healthy Families is a signature program of BCBSNM. The initiative focuses on engaging children and their families in understanding the importance of nutritious food, raising the level of physical activity, better managing chronic conditions and promoting safe environments.
