American Heart Association-New Mexico and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico Seek Nominees for Go Red for Women Red Dress Awards

The American Heart Association (AHA), the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health for all, is seeking nominations for the Go Red for Women Red Dress Award, given annually to women who embody heart-healthy living or actively encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle. The award is presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM).

“No change is too small, and every accomplishment is significant,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. Living a healthy lifestyle isn’t something you do once or every now and then. It’s making a commitment to form habits that become a part of your everyday life. We’re both proud and excited to be a part of honoring these individuals.”

Nominations may be made at www.heart.org/NMRedDress. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 18. A selection committee will pick a Go Red for Women Red Dress Award winner and two runners up to be named at the New Mexico Go Red for Women Luncheon on Feb. 23 at Hotel Albuquerque.

“It’s not just about achieving a healthy weight and getting fit. It’s about getting enough sleep, managing stress and practicing mindfulness,” said Sherri Wells, executive director for AHA-New Mexico. Nominees should be those who have maintained a healthy lifestyle change for a year or more, Wells said.

About Go Red for Women®
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For 18 years, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
