ALBUQUERQUE — BCBSNM employees organized the annual all employee-driven Adopt-a-Family initiative to provide gifts for more than 160 New Mexicans in need during the holiday season. Recipients included families impacted by the 2022 New Mexico wildfires, vulnerable seniors identified by the City of Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs and residents of Genesis Ladera Center, a skilled nursing facility that houses 120 seniors.
The employee-driven holiday initiative provides gifts and other items to community members who would otherwise go without presents or other needed supplies during the holiday season.
“During this holiday season, it is our privilege to provide gifts for vulnerable seniors and those affected by this year’s wildfires who have suffered unexpected hardship,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. “We hope our efforts will make the holidays a little brighter for these families.”
Employees held fundraising events to purchase items on families' wish lists and raised approximately $9,000 in gifts and gift cards.
