TenderLove Community Center Receives a Grant From BCBSNM to Support Training Programs

ALBUQUERQUE — TenderLove Community Center (TLCC) announced that it received a $25,000 grant from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico’s (BCBSNM) Healthy Kids, Healthy Families® initiative. The grant will support TenderLove Community Center’s program, which provides training and services to clients who are recovering from trauma, homelessness or imprisonment.

“At TenderLove Community Center, we deeply believe that every person has a creative spark and developing that spark will bring confidence and a sense of purpose,” said Debbie Johnson, executive director of TenderLove Community Center. “Every person can grow the skills, traits and qualities to become effective leaders, when given the right support and encouragement in a safe environment.”

This grant will help TLCC provide the training and services needed to help clients find employment or establish their own businesses, find stable housing that they can retain, learn to maintain a household budget and take the critical steps toward becoming self-sufficient and financially stable.

“TenderLove Community Center provides one-on-one attention that can help empower individuals and families live fulfilling lives,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. “We are proud to support a program that helps families and individuals get back on their feet to escape poverty and achieve a stable life.”

BCBSNM’s Healthy Kids, Healthy Families grant initiative is part of an ongoing commitment to invest in and partner with nonprofit organizations that offer sustainable, measurable programs in nutrition, physical activity, disease prevention and management, and supporting safe environments. TenderLove Community Center’s commitment to breaking cycles of poverty and homelessness through programs that teach skills to enter or re-enter the job market after traumatic circumstances such as survival of domestic violence, previous incarceration or homelessness aligns with the vision of Healthy Kids, Healthy Families to improve the health of children and their families across New Mexico.
