Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico and YES Housing are teaming up to establish community gardens that provide healthy, no-cost food options to residents living in its affordable housing units and nearby community members.
YES Housing’s Healthy Living program offers nutrition education and cooking classes, vaccination clinics and on-site gardens to improve health outcomes for residents and Albuquerque as a whole. The nonprofit also offers social services, such as financial literacy, fitness classes and youth programming.
BCBSNM has invested in YES Housing through its Blue ImpactSM program, which awards major grants to nonprofit organizations helping address social and economic factors that affect health.
