If you have a National Provider Identifier, it’s important to review your information in the NPI Registry. Update the registry promptly when your practice or other data changes, in addition to updating us of any changes. The NPI serves as an important provider identifier on claims and quality reports.
Why accuracy matters for quality care: Correct NPIs and practice information help ensure:
- Preventive screenings, immunizations and other services you provide are properly attributed to you or your practice
- Reporting for Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) measures captures the full picture of the care you deliver to our members
If you have questions about quality reporting, please email us.
To ensure your information is accurate in the NPI Registry
- Review it regularly to ensure that your NPI, specialty, practice address, phone number and credentialing information are up to date.
- If your information changes, update it promptly through the National Plan & Provider Enumeration System website. If you prefer mail, download and mail the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ NPI update form.
Instructions are online in the NPPES FAQs. See the CMS website for more on NPIs.
To ensure your information is accurate with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico
Our members rely on our provider directory to contact you and know whether you are accepting new patients. Your directory information should match the NPI registry.
- Verify that your directory information is accurate. Federal law requires that directory information be verified every 90 days even if it hasn’t changed.
- When your information changes, update it via the Provider Data Management feature in Availity® Essentials, or use our Demographic Change Form
