Away From Home Care® Program (HMO Guest Membership)

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) HMO members may become guests of an affiliated Blue Cross and Blue Shield HMO when they are away from home for at least 90 consecutive days through the Away From Home Care program. This is ideal for members who have dependent children living in other states (attending school, for example). This guest membership program enables ongoing access to contracting hospitals and doctors.

Resources

BCBSNM members can log in to Blue Access for Members to access more detailed information. Call the Customer Service number on the back of your member ID card for specific locations where the program is available

Access for Out-of-State Urgent Care and Emergencies when Travelling

HMO members can use the BlueCard® Program when they are traveling or away from home for less than 90 consecutive days and need urgent or emergency care.

Note: HMO members who are traveling and need urgent care must first call their Primary Care Provider (PCP), who can refer the member to an urgent care facility. The PCP must call BCBSNM and receive prior authorization for the member to receive coverage for services from a non-participating provider. Other pre-certification requirements may also apply.
