Why Do I Need To Renew My Medicaid?

The state must check to see if you are still eligible to get Medicaid benefits. This is called Medicaid renewal. Most will need to renew their benefits once a year. When it’s your time to renew, the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) sends a notice. That notice will include:

  • Required documents
  • When the documents are due
  • How to renew your Medicaid

Which Documents Do I Need To Provide?

The state will let you know what is needed. Types of documents you may need to provide include proof of:

  • Identity (driver's license or state photo ID, Social Security number)
  • Citizenship (birth certificate, passport, immigration records)
  • Residency – that you live in New Mexico (rental agreement, utility bills)
  • Income (tax returns, paycheck stubs, bank statements)

What Is New

There are new federal updates called H.R. 1, also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. These changes will not affect all members. 

Due to these updates, you may need to: 

  • Share updated income or household details 
  • Answer additional questions 
  • Fill out forms by a deadline 

Each person’s steps may be different. Stay informed, act and follow the instructions you get.

What Changes Are Coming in 2027?

Some members in the adult expansion population may need to renew their Medicaid coverage every six months starting January 1, 2027. They also may need to provide proof of:

  • Work or job training
  • Attending school
  • Community service

Some adults will not need to provide this information. You will be contacted if more information is needed. You will have 30 days to respond so you can keep your Medicaid coverage.

How Can I Renew My Medicaid?

When it's time to renew your Medicaid, you have options.

Online

Quickly renew online at:

Click on the Renew My Benefits button to complete your renewal application. If your address or income has changed, be sure to report your changes.

Call

Call the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) to renew:

Monday – Friday

Fill out your renewal form and mail it to:
