BCBSNM Launches Second Care Van
KURT SHIPLEY: This is a wonderful event for us, an opportunity to do something that we have been wanting to do for quite a while. I will tell you my staff loved having a Care Van and loved having an opportunity to serve our communities and they wanted to have another Care Van for quite a while. This is an exciting opportunity for us today.
With the addition of this second Care Van we will be able to double our efforts and bring services to people throughout New Mexico. Particularly in our rural underserved areas.
EUGENE SUN: With this Care Van and the second Care Van and in conjunction with our many community partners we will be able to hopefully double the reach of the care that we can provide. Some of the services that are provided include dental screenings, screenings for blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease all citizens of the state that need access and can come to get these services free of charge.
STEVE LUCERO: Blue Cross and Blue Shield has been an excellent partner with Feria De Salud, and the reason that I mention Feria De Salud is because the Care Van shows up every year and out of the Care Van we are able to provide a number of different services and a number of important screenings. It’s an opportunity for doctors to see patients in a more private environment. In having a larger van that can serve more at one time is going to be critical to our effort to provide these services to the community.
ANTHONY VIGIL: I used the Care Van. You got private areas for examination, you got all the tools you need to do the examination. Patients appreciate the privacy. The van has been extremely helpful.
JUNE DONOHUE: We do screen almost a 1,000 people a year and we go to about 30 different locations and about half of those are in the Care Van. It means that we can do more and we are excited when it gets to be our turn.
